Nineteen years after setting out to circumnavigate the globe, adventure Jason Lewis will share his story and the lessons about sustainability he learned at a 7 p.m. lecture on Feb. 27 in Berger Hall.<\/p>\n

Lewis is accredited with being the first person to circumnavigate the globe by human power.\u00a0He began his expedition in July 1994 and completed the journey around the world in October 2007.<\/p>\n

According to Kevin Gilford, assistant director, Office of Sustainability, it was on this journey that Lewis learned the true meaning of living a sustainable life.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis trip started off as barroom bravado,\u201d Gilford said. \u201cBut by the end of it his life had changed and he realized his journey was a lesson in sustainability that he had to share.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lewis\u2019s lecture, \u201cSustainability: An Explorer\u2019s Tale,\u201d will discuss his expedition around the world, the challenges he faced and the lessons he learned.<\/p>\n

According to Gilford, the lecture helps simplify a topic that is normally very complicated and will help attendees relate to sustainability more easily.<\/p>\n

The event is sponsored by the Office of Sustainability and the Office of Student Activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis isn\u2019t just a sustainability lecture,\u201d Gilford said. \u201cThis is a story about adventure and fun. I don\u2019t want to give anything away, but I really think anyone who attends will enjoy it and take something out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event is free and open to the public, and Gilford suggests inviting anyone you know.<\/p>\n

\u201cHonestly, I don\u2019t know anyone who couldn\u2019t find this story interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n

After his lecture, Lewis will open the floor to questions from the audience. He will also sign copies of his book \u201cDark Waters: The Expedition Trilogy, Book 1.\u201d<\/p>\n

The UCCS Department of Public Safety will provide complementary parking for the event in lots 3 and 4.<\/p>\n
