Violinist Karen Bentley Pollick will join the UCCS Ensemble Peak Frequency to present \u201cStatio Hiberna\/Winter Stasis\u201d at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 13 at the UCCS Gallery of Contemporary Art, 121 S. Tejon in the Plaza of the Rockies Building.<\/p>\n

A preconcert discussion is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. The events are part of the Peak Frequency Creative Arts Collective Wednesday Night Live! @ GOCA series.<\/p>\n

The events are open to the public, a $10 donation is suggested.<\/p>\n

The first half of the concert will include works from Bentley Pollick\u2019s multimedia presentation \u201cViolin, Viola & Video Virtuosity\u201d by composers Jeffrey Harrington, Charles Norman Mason and Ofer Ben-Amots. The second half includes \u201cEquipoise\u201d(breath in repose), a premiere from composer Glen Whitehead, Associate Professor, UCCS Department of Visual and Performing Arts; Alaskan composer Matthew Burtner’s \u201cThe Golden Sparrow\u201d for off-stage trumpet, container of light and electronics; Elliott Carter’s \u201cShard\u201d for solo guitar; and a masterwork of impressionism, Claude Debussy’s \u201cSonata for Flute, Viola and Harp\u201d (arr. guitar).<\/p>\n

Three UCCS faculty members will also perform. They are Whitehead, trumpet; Jane Rigler, senior instructor, Department of Visual and Performing Arts, flute; and Colin McAllister, music program coordinator, Department of Visual and Performing Arts, guitar.<\/p>\n

The current GOCA121 exhibit, \u201cCeramica: Contemporary Clay.\u201d will act as a visually stimulating backdrop for the music. This exhibit features an installation highlighting five regional artists.<\/p>\n

Bentley Pollick has performed as violinist with Paul Dresher\u2019s Electro-Acoustic Ensemble since 1999 and performs a wide range of solo repertoire and styles on violin, viola, piano and Norwegian hardangerfele. A native of Palo Alto, Calif., she studied with Camilla Wicks in San Francisco and with Yuval Yaron, Josef Gingold and Rostislav Dubinsky at Indiana University where she received both bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees in violin performance. She has several recordings of original music, including \u201cElectric Diamond,\u201d \u201cKonzerto and Succubus\u201d and \u201cAriel View,\u201d for which she has received three music awards from Just Plain Folks, including Best Instrumental Album and Best Song. On her own record label, Ariel Ventures, she has produced \u201cDancing Suite to Suite, <amberwood>\u201d, and \u201cHomage to Fiddlers\u201d. She filmed Dan Tepfer\u2018s \u201cSolo Blues for Violin and Piano\u201d in Shoal Creek, Ala., in June 2009. For more information, visit http:\/\/www.kbentley.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n
