The last precast panel is lifted into place.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

When\u00a0the last pre-cast concrete panel was lifted into place on Jan. 11, construction of the Eldora and Copper additions to the Summit Village housing complex reached 25 percent.<\/p>\n

Construction for the $18.1 million expansion began in May.\u00a0 According to Jeff Davis, executive director, Auxiliary Operations, construction is on schedule.<\/p>\n

\u201cStructure construction of the buildings is now complete,\u201d Davis said.\u00a0 \u201cThe next phase will include finishing the interior, adding utility features, stuccoing the fa\u00e7ade and moving in the furniture.\u201d<\/p>\n

Construction will continue through late summer 2013 with Eldora and Copper ready for students for the fall 2013 semester.<\/p>\n

Originally named Echo, the hall\u2019s name was changed to Eldora following Echo Mountain being bought and converted into private training facility.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Echo Mountain was sold over late spring we made the decision to change the name to Eldora,\u201d said Davis. \u201cWe wanted to make sure that the new halls matched the other public ski-resort themed buildings in Summit Village.\u201d<\/p>\n

Summit Village expansion takes shape<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Copper and Eldora will provide 192 beds to serve an increasing population of resident students. Rooms will be single occupancy, three-person suites and four-person suites.<\/p>\n

No state funds or taxpayer dollars are being used to fund the \u00a0$18.1 million expansion. The buildings are bonded and rents paid by student occupants cover the annual bond payment, utilities and other operating expenses.<\/p>\n
