UCCS faculty and staff will have the chance to meet an entire human patient simulator family, each of whom has a different health issue, during a 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 8 open house at the Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences Clinical Simulation Learning Center in University Hall.<\/p>\n
The new, state-of-the-art, simulation center can mimic health issues ranging from heart attacks to child birth, according to Nancy Smith, dean, Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences. The center gives students a taste of their profession before entering clinical rotations, increasing confidence and skill, and providing faculty a new tool in testing student competency.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve come a long way since Carl,\u201d Smith said recently in reference to a single patient simulation device used by students and made famous by his guest appearance on CISCO TelePresence courses. \u201cCarl\u2019s whole family is here now, giving students a chance to practice health care within a much broader simulation spectrum.\u201d<\/p>\n
Gifts from the Colorado Health Foundation, the Caring for Colorado Foundation, and the UCCS campus helped support the construction of the center that began last December.<\/p>\n
