Brandon Gavett, assistant professor, Department of Psychology, will lead a free professional development series for faculty interested in expanding the use of statistics in their research.<\/p>\n

The Office of Research and Innovation will sponsor the workshops scheduled for 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26 in Columbine 116 and 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 7. The location for the Dec. 7 workshop will be announced at a later date.<\/p>\n

The Oct. 26 workshop is designed to introduce the R Project for Statistical Computing, a free open-source statistical software package popular in many areas of human subjects research because of its flexibility, computational power, and extensive online help resources. This workshop will provide an introduction to the program and allow for networking between participants with differing levels of experience.<\/p>\n

The Dec. 7 workshop will demonstrate R Project for Statistical Computing\u2019s use for commonly used inferential statistics such as t-tests and analysis of variance as well as alternative statistical procedures such as effect sizes and confidence intervals. Beginners and experts will have the opportunity to discuss the application of these methods to specific projects.<\/p>\n

Additional workshops are planned for the spring semester.<\/p>\n

All of the workshops are free and designed so participants can attend all of the sessions or just those most suited to their needs. The first hour of each workshop will focus on presenting that session\u2019s information, and the last half hour will be open for questions and networking.<\/p>\n
