{"id":7665,"date":"2012-08-24T09:08:31","date_gmt":"2012-08-24T15:08:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=7665"},"modified":"2012-08-24T09:08:31","modified_gmt":"2012-08-24T15:08:31","slug":"arts-council-award-nominees-include-uccs-faculty-staff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=7665","title":{"rendered":"Arts council award nominees include UCCS faculty, staff"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Pikes Peak Arts Council recently nominated three UCCS-based organizations or individuals for six awards recognizing excellence in the arts.<\/p>\n<p>The awards will be presented Sept. 21 at the Stargazers Theatre and Event Center, 10 South Parkside Drive, Colorado Springs, as part of the 12<sup>th<\/sup> Annual Pikes Peak Arts Council Awards for Excellence in the Arts program.<\/p>\n<p>Those nominated were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Daisy McConnell, director, Gallery of Contemporary Art, in the visual art excellence in curatorship category for \u201cSuburbia.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Andrea Herrera, professor, Department of Women\u2019s and Ethnic Studies, in the visual art excellence in curatorship category for \u201cCuba Transnational.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Theatreworks in the theater outstanding technical achievement category. Jan Avramov was recognized for costume design in \u201c39 Steps.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Theatreworks in the theater outstanding performance by an actor category. Christopher Lowell was recognized for his role as Shylock in \u201cThe Merchant of Venice.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Theatreworks in the theater outstanding performance by an actress category. Bertha Holly was recognized for her role in \u201cJoe Turner\u2019s Come and Gone.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Theatreworks in the theater outstanding production category for \u201cThe 39 Steps\u201d and \u201cJoe Turner\u2019s Come and Gone.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>The Pikes Peak Arts Council recently nominated three UCCS-based organizations or individuals for six awards recognizing excellence in the arts.
