{"id":740,"date":"2010-04-15T12:00:35","date_gmt":"2010-04-15T18:00:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=740"},"modified":"2010-04-14T16:27:42","modified_gmt":"2010-04-14T22:27:42","slug":"university-of-colorado-graduate-programs-among-the-best-in-nation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=740","title":{"rendered":"University of Colorado graduate programs among the best in nation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thirteen academic programs across the University of Colorado\u2019s campuses remain among the best in the United States, and are ranked in the top 10 in their fields, according to the 2010 edition of the <em>U.S. News &amp; World Report\u2019s<\/em> annual rankings for graduate schools.<\/p>\n<p>Eight academic categories at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (part of the University of Colorado Denver), and five at the University of Colorado at Boulder are listed in the top 10 in their fields nationally, and another 14 are among the top 50. <em>U.S. News &amp; World Report<\/em> cited a CU campus 30 times in the early edition of its rankings of public and private graduate schools, programs and specialties across the United States. The magazine will issue a complete list of its annual rankings April 15.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>U.S. News &amp; World Report<\/em> rankings are based on surveys filled out by deans and other academic experts on college campuses around the country who are asked to rate their peers. The business publication\u2019s goal is to help guide students and parents as they compare college programs at accredited public and private U.S. universities.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights from CU\u2019s 2010 rankings include:<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>UCCS and UC Denver<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CU\u2019s public affairs program, based at both UC Denver and the UCCS, ranks 32nd nationally. UC Denver\u2019s biology sciences graduate program came in at 68th in the nation and the UCCS nursing program is ranked 72nd.<\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>CU-Boulder<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CU-Boulder\u2019s atomic\/molecular\/optical physics program remains No. 1 in the nation, tied in first place this year with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Other CU-Boulder programs ranked in the top 10 nationally are environmental sciences, fifth; quantum physics, fifth; environmental law, sixth; and physical chemistry, eighth.<\/p>\n<p>CU-Boulder graduate programs ranked among the top 50 in the nation include physics, 19th; earth sciences, 23rd; speech language pathology, 25th; chemistry, 26th; psychology, 29th; biology sciences; 30th; clinical psychology, 33rd; part-time MBA, 35th; law, 38th; engineering, 39th; computer science, 39th; and education, 41st.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anschutz Medical Campus<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The CU School of Medicine is ranked fifth in the country for primary care, and 27th overall for research.The School of Medicine\u2019s specialties of pediatrics and family medicine are both ranked in ninth place nationally.<strong> <\/strong>Five health care programs at the CU College of Nursing are ranked in the top 10 nationwide, and the college is ranked in 15th place overall among nearly 100 programs.<strong> <\/strong>In the nurse practitioner category, the college\u2019s pediatric nursing specialty is ranked in third place; family nursing, fifth; and adult nursing, fourth. In the clinical nurse specialist category, the adult medical-surgical nursing specialty is ranked sixth. CU\u2019s physician\u2019s assistant program is ranked eighth overall.<\/p>\n<p><em>U.S. News &amp; World Report<\/em> will post all of its rankings at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.USNews.com\">www.USNews.com<\/a> on Thursday, April 15.
