{"id":7354,"date":"2012-07-12T11:01:33","date_gmt":"2012-07-12T17:01:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=7354"},"modified":"2012-07-12T15:47:10","modified_gmt":"2012-07-12T21:47:10","slug":"garden-master-presents-free-summer-gardening-workshops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=7354","title":{"rendered":"Garden master presents free summer gardening workshops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three gardening workshops for the UCCS community are scheduled for July and August at the UCCS Students for Environmental Awareness and Sustainability Garden.<\/p>\n<p>The workshops will take place from 9 a.m. \u2013 11 a.m. July 14, Aug. 4 and Aug. 18. All workshops will take place at the SEAS Garden, located at the Heller Center for Arts and Humanities.<\/p>\n<p>The topics for the workshops are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>July 14, Building an Herb Spiral<\/li>\n<li>August 4, Pruning Lilacs<\/li>\n<li>August 18, Seed Collecting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Judith Rice-Jones, retired faculty, Kraemer Family Library, and garden master, SEAS Garden, believes that the workshops are an opportunity to observe nature and to learn from it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst we\u2019ll discuss the concepts, and then we\u2019ll try and implement them in the garden,\u201d Rice-Jones said. \u201cThat way participants have the theoretical knowledge and the hands on experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7355\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7355\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/herb-spiral.png\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-7355\" title=\"herb spiral\" src=\"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/herb-spiral-300x224.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/herb-spiral-300x224.png 300w, https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/herb-spiral-555x415.png 555w, https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/herb-spiral.png 937w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7355\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Herb spiral<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The first workshop focuses on herb spirals, which are very practical for the Colorado weather and environment and are great for people who enjoy cooking.<\/p>\n<p>The workshops are free and open to the public and no previous experience is required.
