\"\"<\/a>UCCS is co-hosting an opportunity to dispose of electronics, tires, mattresses and other items waste collectors don\u2019t usually take.<\/p>\n

The UCCS Office of Sustainability and Blue Star Recyclers are co-sponsoring \u201cColorado Springs Recycles at UCCS\u201d from 10 a.m. \u2013 2 p.m.\u00a0 April 28. The community wide event takes place in Parking Lot 12 on North Nevada Ave., between Eagle Rock Road and Austin Bluffs Pkwy.<\/p>\n

At a cost of $5 per carload, anyone can bring in cans of latex paint, fluorescent light bulbs, batteries, newspaper, plastic and other more common household recyclables. Payment is tax deductible and may be made with check or cash.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Blue Star Recyclers is a local nonprofit organization that works closely with Community Intersections to employ a number of developmentally disabled individuals. Work is done locally and is certified. Blue Star specializes in recycling electronic and computer components that can compromise information and damage the environment if disposed of improperly.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis event is a great way to keep polluting materials out of landfills while supporting Blue Star\u2019s mission to create local jobs,\u201d Linda Kogan, director, Office of Sustainability, said. \u201cTake this opportunity for spring cleaning to clear out recyclable waste from basements, garages and storage areas,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

There are some limits, however. Cans containing varnishes, stains and oil-based paints cannot be taken. Latex paint will be accepted, but no more than 30 cans to a carload. Only four tires per vehicle and only one mattress per vehicle will be accepted. Blue Star Recyclers may be contacted regarding any questionable items or materials at (719) 464-4285<\/span>.<\/p>\n
