The program also provides a unique, philanthropic opportunity for the local community to better connect with our college. Our faculty, along with faculty at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock College of Engineering and Information Technology are leveraging knowledge and equipment through a special collaboration agreement. Other universities and organizations may join our GeV program in the future and share our goal of being part of an efficient, cohesive group dedicated to economic development for their local communities and regions.”

The GeV program is focused on developing new technologies that will create companies in addition to targeted commercialization and co-development opportunities linked to specific areas of faculty expertise. Collaboration with faculty at other universities allows the college to combine resources and address more opportunities. Current development areas being explored include mobile computing applications, data visualization, radio frequency identification applications and nanotechnology.

“The new GeV program is a strong addition to our college’s successful work in fundamental scientific research,” Carlos Araujo, associate dean for research and development and professor, College of Engineering and Applied Science, said. “We are developing game-changing technology that is truly global in scope for commercialization.”

Through the CU Foundation, the college created a special “GeV Stakeholders” opportunity that allows donors to contribute funds for graduate-student stipends, scholarships to recruit top researchers, equipment, student and faculty travel funds, as well as other GeV-related expenses. Donors attend special briefings on GeV technologies and have the opportunity to invest along with others in startup companies to be created in the future.

For more information about the GeV program, contact Joe Swaty, project director, College of Engineering and Applied Science, at jswaty@uccs.edu.

– Joe Swaty

The College of Engineering and Applied Science recently launched a new program called Global Engineering Ventures to provide self-sustainable funding for the college.
