{"id":4599,"date":"2011-09-13T14:45:54","date_gmt":"2011-09-13T20:45:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=4599"},"modified":"2012-01-23T16:07:55","modified_gmt":"2012-01-23T23:07:55","slug":"u-s-news-uccs-among-best-in-the-west-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=4599","title":{"rendered":"U.S. News: UCCS among best in the West"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UCCS is among the best public regional universities in the Western United States, according to the editors of <em>U.S. News and World Report.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the 350-page 2012 college rankings edition, \u201c America\u2019s Best Colleges,\u201d to be released Sept. 20, the magazine\u2019s editors ranked the overall quality of UCCS tenth in a three-way tie among public master\u2019s degree-granting Western universities. Among all public and private master\u2019s degree-granting universities, UCCS was ranked in the first tier and 39<sup>th<\/sup> overall.<\/p>\n<p>The magazine\u2019s editors also lauded the UCCS undergraduate engineering program, ranking it\u00a0tied for eleventh\u00a0in the nation among public engineering schools\u00a0whose highest degree is a bachelor\u2019s or master\u2019s, including military service academies. The overall national ranking for UCCS undergraduate engineering program, including public and private universities, was 27th.<\/p>\n<p>The undergraduate business program at UCCS was ranked 154th among public and private universities.<\/p>\n<p>For the past several years, UCCS has ranked in the top tier of all public and private master\u2019s universities in the West. Master\u2019s universities provide a full range of undergraduate and master\u2019s degree programs and a few doctoral degrees.<\/p>\n<p>The top public Western universities granting master\u2019s degrees were California Polytechnic-San Luis Obispo, New Mexico Institute of Technology, Western Washington University, California State University-Long Beach, Evergreen State College, California State University-Pomona, California State University, Chico, California State University, Fresno, San Jose State University, Texas State University, San Marcos and UCCS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am pleased that the effort of faculty and staff over many years to create a high-quality student experience is recognized,\u201d Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak said. \u201cWe are committed to providing affordable, accessible, high-quality educational opportunities that allow southern Colorado residents to compete nationally and globally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In ranking more than 1,400 colleges and universities, U.S. News relies on quantitative measures that education experts have proposed as reliable indicators of academic quality.
