{"id":34934,"date":"2018-09-20T15:10:33","date_gmt":"2018-09-20T21:10:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=34934"},"modified":"2018-10-05T16:02:15","modified_gmt":"2018-10-05T22:02:15","slug":"faculty-at-work-joel-tonyan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=34934","title":{"rendered":"Faculty at Work: Joel Tonyan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Joel-Tonyan-FAW-picture-cropped.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-34935\" src=\"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Joel-Tonyan-FAW-picture-cropped.jpg\" alt=\"Joel Tonyan\" width=\"276\" height=\"342\" srcset=\"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Joel-Tonyan-FAW-picture-cropped.jpg 276w, https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/Joel-Tonyan-FAW-picture-cropped-121x150.jpg 121w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 276px) 100vw, 276px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Joel Tonyan joined the Kraemer Family Library in 2014 with research interests in information seeking behavior and social media analytics.<\/p>\n<p>His recent book chapter publication \u201cUsing Analytics to Assess Your Social Media Marketing Efforts\u201d appears in &#8220;Using Digital Analytics for Smart Assessment.&#8221; His article \u201cDiscovery Tools in the Classroom: A Usability Study and Implications for Information Literacy Instruction,\u201d co-authored with Christi Piper, will appear in the &#8220;Journal of Web Librarianship.&#8221; This study shows that although library search interfaces are growing easier to use, students continue to struggle with basic research skills such as keyword development and the evaluation of search results.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Tonyan is completing a bibliometric analysis of &#8220;Geographic Review&#8221; with Emily Skop and Arielle Cassiday to determine how the journal explored the topic of refugeeism over the past century. Tonyan received his M.A. in English from the University of Arkansas and M.L.I.S. from the University of Oklahoma.<\/p>\n<p><em>Editor&#8217;s Note: This is part of a regular series of faculty members coordinated by the UCCS Office of Research.
