More than 40 new faculty members joined UCCS this fall. Today, meet 18 faculty members from the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.<\/p>\n

\n

Hayder Al-Mohammad<\/strong><\/em>, assistant professor, Anthropology Department. Al-Mohammad previously served as an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Hunt Postdoctoral Fellow at the Wenner-Gren Foundation. He earned his bachelor\u2019s degree from the University of London, master\u2019s degree from the University of Kent, at Canterbury, and Ph.D. from the University of Kent, at Canterbury.<\/p>\n

\n

Andrea Baker<\/strong>, instructor,\u00a0Communication Department.\u00a0Baker previously served as an\u00a0adjunct instructor at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and as an adjunct professor\u00a0at the University of Maryland University College, Europe.<\/p>\n

She earned her bachelor\u2019s degree from Ithaca College and Ph.D. from the University at Albany, State University of New York.<\/p>\n

Christine Biermann<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Christine Biermann<\/strong><\/em>, assistant professor,\u00a0Geography and Environmental Studies Department.\u00a0Biermann previously served as an assistant professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Washington and an instructor of advanced biogeography at Ohio State University.<\/p>\n

She earned her bachelor\u2019s degree from the State University of New York at Geneseo, master\u2019s degree from the University of Tennessee, and Ph.D. from The Ohio State University.<\/p>\n

Linda Cummings<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Linda Cummings<\/strong>, instructor, Chemistry and Biochemistry Department.\u00a0Cummings previously served as a teacher at the Classical Academy and a substitute teacher at the International School of Bangkok.<\/p>\n

She earned her bachelor\u2019s degrees from both Colorado College and the University of Washington and master\u2019s degrees from both the University of North Dakota and the University of Northern Colorado.<\/p>\n

Karen deVries<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Karen DeVries<\/strong>, instructor,\u00a0Women’s and Ethnic Studies (WEST). DeVries previously served as a faculty instructor of political science and women, gender, and sexuality studies\u00a0at Montana State University and an instructor of religious studies\u00a0at Gallatin Community College.<\/p>\n

She earned her bachelor\u2019s degree from Lawrence University, master\u2019s degree from the University of Chicago Divinity School, and Ph.D. from the University of California at Santa Cruz.<\/p>\n

\n

Ellen<\/strong> Fricano<\/strong>, instructor,\u00a0Biology Department.\u00a0Fricano previously served as a substitute and grader of human anatomy at Johns Hopkins University and an instructor at Duke University\u2019s Talent Identification Program.<\/p>\n

She earned her bachelor\u2019s degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and master\u2019s degree from Mercyhurst University.<\/p>\n

Katherine Guinness<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Katherine Guinness<\/em><\/strong>,<\/em> assistant professor, Art History, Visual and Performing Arts Department.\u00a0Guiness previously served as a visiting lecturer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an adjunct professor at North Carolina State University.<\/p>\n

She earned her bachelor\u2019s degree from St. Louis University, master\u2019s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Ph.D. from the University of Manchester.<\/p>\n

Marie Hoerner<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Marie Hoerner<\/strong>, instructor,\u00a0Geography and Environmental Studies Department. Hoerner previously served as an adjunct instructor of at Red Rocks Community College and a teaching assistant at the University of Chicago.<\/p>\n

She earned her bachelor\u2019s degree from Colorado College, master\u2019s degree and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago.<\/p>\n

Jacob Karn<\/strong>, instructor, Mathematics Department.\u00a0Karn previously served as a lecturer at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and an undergraduate teaching assistant at the College of Idaho.<\/p>\n

He earned his bachelor\u2019s degree from the College of Idaho and master\u2019s degree from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.<\/p>\n

Jennifer Kling<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Jennifer Kling<\/strong><\/em>, assistant professor,\u00a0Philosophy. Kling previously served as an assistant professor of Philosophy at Siena Heights University and an instructor of engineering ethics.<\/p>\n

She earned her bachelor\u2019s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, master\u2019s degree from the University of Colorado-Boulder, and Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.<\/p>\n

Lindsey McCormick<\/strong>, instructor,\u00a0Communication Department. McCormick previously served as a Lecturer at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and an adjunct communication instructor at the Community College of Denver.<\/p>\n

She earned her bachelor\u2019s degree from Bethel University and master\u2019s degree from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.<\/p>\n

Elliot Mercer<\/strong>, instructor,\u00a0Academic Theatre Program,\u00a0Visual and Performing Arts Department. Mercer previously served as a Marilyn Yarbrough Teaching Fellow at Kenyon College and a curatorial research assistant at the Dia Art Foundation.<\/p>\n

He earned his bachelor\u2019s degree from Saint Mary\u2019s College of California, master\u2019s degree from New York University, and Ph.D. from Northwestern University.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Janak Paudyal<\/strong>, instructor,\u00a0Chemistry and Biochemistry Department. Paudyal previously served as a visiting assistant professor at Western Carolina University and a postdoctoral researcher at Florida International University.<\/p>\n

He earned his master\u2019s degree from Tribhuvan University and Ph.D. from Florida International University.<\/p>\n

Nathan Price<\/strong>, instructor, English Department.<\/p>\n

Price previously served as a lecturer of english at Southern Utah University and an assistant professor at Gachon University.<\/p>\n

He earned his Associate\u2019s degree from Salt Lake Community College, Bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degree from Northern Arizona University.<\/p>\n

Elena Svetieva<\/strong><\/em>, assistant professor,\u00a0Communication Department. Svetieva previously served as an instructor in the Department of Communication for the University at Buffalo, State University of New York and as a lecturer and tutor for the School of Psychology at the University of Sydney.<\/p>\n

She earned her bachelor\u2019s degree from the University of Sydney, master\u2019s degree and Ph.D. from the University at Buffalo, State University of New York.<\/p>\n

Anthony Tan<\/strong><\/em>, assistant professor, Music,\u00a0Visual and Performing Arts Department. Tan previously served as a Fellow for the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University, a lecturer at McGill University, and is currently serving as an assistant professor at UCCS.<\/p>\n

He earned his bachelor\u2019s degree from the University of Calgary, master\u2019s degree and Ph.D. from McGill University.<\/p>\n

Tre Wentling<\/strong><\/em>, visiting assistant professor,\u00a0Women’s and Ethnic Studies (WEST). Wentling previously served as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and taught courses on Sex and Gender and Sociology of Sport at Syracuse University.<\/p>\n

He earned his bachelor\u2019s degree and master\u2019s degree from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Ph.D. from Syracuse University.<\/p>\n

Jessi Smith<\/strong><\/em>, associate vice chancellor, Research, Academic Affairs. Smith previously served as a professor and an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at Montana State University.<\/p>\n

She earned her bachelor\u2019s degree from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, master\u2019s degree and Ph.D. from the University of Utah.<\/p>\n
