The UCCS Family Development Center will provide additional scholarship funding for students with childcare needs with a four-year, $535,176 grant through the U.S. Department of Education. The latest Childcare Access Means Parents in School grant will mark a 25 percent increase from the previous four-year grant awarded in 2014.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“We are thrilled that not only the CCAMPIS grant was renewed, but that we were able to secure additional scholarship funding for parents earning their degree,” said Season Doebler, director, Family Development Center. “Childcare costs can often be a major barrier for students going to school, and this grant will directly help address that need for our campus community.”\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

UCCS awarded 62 grants in 2017 that covered between 28 and 50 percent of childcare costs at the Family Development Center. UCCS students receive priority enrollment for their children as space becomes available.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Family Development Center provides year-round education and care for children between 1 and 5 years old, and summer programs for elementary students. A team of 19 full-time professionals work with 100 students in six classrooms, two observation rooms, an on-site kitchen, three age-appropriate outdoor play areas, library and teaching areas.
