{"id":29879,"date":"2018-02-01T12:59:05","date_gmt":"2018-02-01T19:59:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=29879"},"modified":"2021-10-14T11:04:12","modified_gmt":"2021-10-14T17:04:12","slug":"ent-center-strikes-leed-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=29879","title":{"rendered":"Ent Center strikes LEED Gold"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_29880\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29880\" style=\"width: 740px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/ent.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-29880 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/ent-750x173-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"740\" height=\"171\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-29880\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The UCCS Ent Center for the Arts recently received LEED Gold certification.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/leed-gold.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-29881\" src=\"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/leed-gold-1.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"198\" height=\"197\" \/><\/a>The UCCS Ent Center for the Arts recently received Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification, becoming the tenth UCCS building to hold the coveted designation.<\/p>\n<p>Campus facilities and sustainability leaders learned Jan. 25 that the Ent Center scored highly in an external review of the building and its construction. The building opened its doors to the campus Jan. 17.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe plaque and certificates are on order,\u201d Linda Kogan, director, Sustainability Office, said. \u201cThese awards reflect the commitment of the university, and its contractors, to meet high standards with an eye to the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brad Johnson, design and project manager, Facilities Services, said: \u201cWe\u2019re proud of our design and construction team\u2019s effort and dedication to meet our goal of LEED Gold. We will continue to help make this state-of-the-art facility even more sustainable and energy efficient through building operations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In granting the gold status, reviewers cited the Ent Center\u2019s water and energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality and site improvements.<\/p>\n<p>Specific examples include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A 41 percent or 125,000-gallon annual reduction in indoor water use through the installation of efficient plumbing fixtures.<\/li>\n<li>A 53 percent or 323,000-gallon annual reduction in outdoor water use through the installation of an efficient irrigation system and native plants.<\/li>\n<li>A 21 percent savings in energy use following installation of high efficiency heating and cooling. Renewable energy credits will be purchased to cover two years of building electricity use.<\/li>\n<li>Dedicated recycling storage for paper, cardboard, glass, plastic and metal.<\/li>\n<li>An estimated 89 percent of construction waste was diverted from landfills.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Developed by the U. S. Green Building Council, LEED is the most widely used green building rating system in the world. Projects earning LEED certification earn points across several areas that address sustainability issues.
