{"id":28499,"date":"2017-11-02T08:25:20","date_gmt":"2017-11-02T14:25:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=28499"},"modified":"2021-03-18T18:37:26","modified_gmt":"2021-03-19T00:37:26","slug":"chancellor-statement-condolences-to-family-friends-of-zach-schlagel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=28499","title":{"rendered":"Chancellor Statement: Condolences to family, friends of Zach Schlagel"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p><strong>Oct. 30, 2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To the Campus Community:<\/p>\n<p>I am writing as a follow up to my message about the tragic hit-and-run that occurred early Sunday morning at the intersection of Austin Bluffs Parkway and Stanton Road.<\/p>\n<p>I now am able to share that the student who died was Zachary Schlagel, a freshman from the town of Severance in northern Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>Zach lived in campus housing and was a pre-engineering student who arrived on campus in August. He was a 2017 graduate of Poudre High School.<\/p>\n<p>Please join me in expressing our sincerest condolences to Zach\u2019s family, friends and classmates.<\/p>\n<p>University officials are working closely to support Zach\u2019s family, his roommates and others. Counseling services are available to anyone who wishes them by calling 255-4444.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the campus is working with the Colorado Springs Police Department in its investigation of this hit-and-run.<\/p>\n<p>We are committed to the safety of our students. Please know that UCCS works closely with the City of Colorado Springs.
