\u201cThe Game of Love and Chance\u201d from the 2016\u20132017 Theatreworks season received the Outstanding Play Award from the Colorado Theatre Guild.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Murray Ross<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A\u00a0final production of the late Murray Ross, artistic director, Theatreworks, received the Outstanding Production of a Play Award from the Colorado Theatre Guild\u2019s 2017 Henry Awards July 17.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Game of Love and Chance,\u201d was Ross\u2019 next-to-last production.\u00a0He helped found Theatreworks in the mid-1970s and was a tireless supporter until his Jan. 2 death.\u00a0He directed “A Christmas Carol” immediately following “The Game of Love and Chance.”<\/p>\n

Drew Martorella, executive director, UCCS Presents, accepted the award and dedicated it to Ross\u2019 legacy.<\/p>\n

“<\/span>My thanks to the Henry Award Judges and the Colorado Theater Guild for this award,” Martorella said. “Theatreworks is sustained and supported by an amazing staff, loyal donors and subscribers, a stalwart advisory board and the entire UCCS community. Thanks, too, to the cast and crew of “The Game of Love and Chance” for making such a joyous piece of theater. And thanks most of all to Murray Ross who is profoundly missed but who\u2019s legacy, vision, and playful genius continues to inspire us into the future.”<\/p>\n

At Parker\u2019s PACE Center, the Henry Awards honored outstanding achievements by member companies and served as the Colorado Theatre Guild\u2019s annual fundraiser. The awards are named for longtime Denver theatre producer Henry Lowenstein. Nominations are determined through a judging process conducted by more than 45 theater journalists, blogger critics and adjudicators from the community.<\/p>\n

In addition to the Outstanding Play Award, \u201cThe Game of Love and Chance\u201d was nominated for Outstanding Direction of a Play (Murray Ross, director), Outstanding Actor in a Play (Sammie Joe Kinnett), Outstanding Actress in a Play (Caitlin Wise), Outstanding Ensemble Performance, and Outstanding Costume Design Tier 1 (Stephanie Bradley).<\/p>\n

\u201cConstellations\u201d received nominations for Outstanding Production of a Play, Outstanding Direction of a Play (Joye Cook-Levy), Outstanding Actress in a Play (Carley Cornelius), Outstanding Lighting Design Tier 1 (Mike Wood), and Outstanding Sound Design Tier 1 (Jason Ducat).<\/p>\n

The nominations mark the first time Theatreworks has competed in the Outstanding Season for a Theatre Company, an award recognizing consistent excellence. This year\u2019s dozen nominations represent the most for the professional theater group in at least 10 years.<\/p>\n
