Memorial services are scheduled for 4 p.m.-6 p.m. June 29 in the Center for Active Living located on the first floor of the Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences for Michelle LeCompte, instructor, Health Sciences Department, Helen E. and Arthur Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences.<\/p>\n

LeCompte died unexpectedly May 28. She began at UCCS as a lecturer in 2012 and became an instructor in 2014, working primarily with students and clients in the Center for Active Living.<\/p>\n

Chancellor Venkat Reddy notified the campus of LeCompte\u2019s death in a May 30 email expressing condolences.<\/p>\n

A memorial\u00a0fund<\/a> in her honor will be created with the CU Foundation. For more information, contact Corrie West, associate director, Development Office, corrie.west@uccs.edu<\/a> or 255-5109.<\/p>\n

LeCompte\u2019s friends and family members prepared the following statement:<\/p>\n

Michelle LeCompte<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Genuine, kind, authentic, self-less and passionate are words which attempt to capture the essence of Michelle LeCompte. She loved her job. Her dedication and excitement to teach and help others was contagious and acknowledged by students, participants and colleagues alike. Michelle was always eager to learn. She completed her undergraduate and graduate at UCCS, achieving a MS Health Promotion, BS Senior Fitness, BA Psychology, and a minor in Gerontology. Her academic achievements married with her decades of experience situated her to provide safe and effective programing at the Center for Active Living at the Lane Center. Michelle had an accomplished career reflecting over 30 years experience in providing support, services, and programming to the senior population and individuals with chronic disease and orthopedic issues. She collaborated with the local Parkinson\u2019s Foundation and successfully delivered PWR! Moves\u00ae classes. Michelle was dedicated to a life of service. Along with assessing and developing physical activity programming for clients and staff, she coordinated the Health Sciences Senior Fitness track, taught health sciences classes and mentored many students during their internships. Michelle also made tremendous contributions to research in health promotion and chronic disease management for baby boomers and beyond.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
