He was a 1985 UCCS graduate.<\/p>\n<p>His family published an obituary on The Springs Funeral Service website. It appears below. He was born in Fort Collins, Colorado. His life was a balance of chemical equations, a wonderful sense of humor, and love for nature.<\/p>\n<p>Chemistry was Mike&#8217;s passion. He received his BS in Chemistry from the University of Colorado- Colorado Springs in 1985, and his Ph.D. in explosive Chemistry from New Mexico Tech in 1990. After post-doctoral appointments at Los Alamos and The University of Nebraska, Mike worked as an explosive chemist at Los Alamos National Laboratories for 17 years. In 2000 Mike formed a company with friend Darren Naud, Ph.D. inventing smokeless fireworks that light up everything from the Super Bowl to Queen Elizabeth&#8217;s Diamond Jubilee.
