2013 Bike Jam<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The UCCS Office of Sustainability will put a twist on the 8th<\/sup> Annual Bike Jam, happening 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.\u00a0 Sept. 1.<\/p>\n

Bike Jam is an annual UCCS event that encourages alternate methods of transportation, specifically bicycles, to promote healthier and sustainable living. This year, the route will include 10 meeting locations for participants to grab free coffee before the day begins. Participants will then be treated to a full breakfast on campus.<\/p>\n

Linda Kogan, director, Office of Sustainability, hopes this event will bring the campus and community together through biking. Community members will be able to register for the closest meeting location then ride to campus with friends and neighbors.<\/p>\n

The El Pomar Plaza will have RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification) trackers to help facilitate the year-long UCCS Pedal Perks<\/a> bicycle incentive program. RFID tags will be free for participants. The incentive program will have a variety of solar-powered stations that will automatically record whenever somebody rides their bike to UCCS, then reward the most dedicated commuter.<\/p>\n

For those in a giving mood, there will be opportunity to donate used bicycles to the Bike Clinic Too<\/a>, a nonprofit that collects, refurbishes and provides bicycle repairs to the homeless and those in need in the Pikes Peak region.<\/p>\n
