The Global Engagement Office and The Global Intercultural Research Center will kick off a weeklong celebration of international education with a Parade of Nations and Chinese Dragon Dance at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 16.<\/p>\n

The parade will include international students, country flags, a Chinese dragon and drums marching from Copper House \u2013 home of the Global Engagement Office \u2013 to the University Center.<\/p>\n

The event will signal the start of International Education Week, a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education scheduled for Nov. 16-20.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs an institution, we have a responsibility to serve our local region, but we also have a responsibility to provide our students with experiences that allow them to navigate the complex world in which we live.\u00a0 This can be done through study abroad experiences, infusion of international perspectives in the classroom and intentional programming that brings together our international students and domestic students,\u201d Mandy Hansen, director, Global Engagement Office, said. \u201cWe are an international destination, a home to many international employers and a campus that is on track to providing a full-array of international educational experience for its students.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hansen invited faculty, staff and students to celebrate the adventures UCCS students experience while studying abroad, as well as the cultures of international students studying in Colorado Springs.<\/p>\n

\u201cInternational education is a campus-wide approach and not just within the confines of an international office,\u201d Hansen said, \u201cIt is\u00a0 a vision that supports cultural understanding, or understanding of \u2018the other,\u2019 and prepares our students to be successful navigating a myriad of cultures, mindsets and environments.\u201d<\/p>\n

UCCS hosted 315 international students from 49 countries during the Fall 2015 semester while 82 students studied abroad in 17 different countries in 4 world regions during the 2013-2014 academic year.<\/p>\n

Parade of Nations and Chinese Dragon Dance<\/a>

International students at UCCS will proudly share their countries\u2019 colors. The Asian and Pacific Islander Student Union will lead the parade with traditional lion dance. The parade will depart Copper House and end at the University Center.<\/p>\n

Join PBS filmmaker Nick Molle in watching Birds Without Borders, his film the explores the habits of four species of small birds while exploring the newly discovered relationship between Rocky Mountain National Mark, and the National Parks and Preserved areas of Costa Rica.
