\"UCCS-50th-Anniversary-Mark\"<\/a>The Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences will help celebrate the 50th<\/sup> anniversary of UCCS with an open house event scheduled for 4:30-6:30 p.m. Nov. 17 at University Hall.<\/p>\n

A formal program featuring Linda Glick, retired faculty, Department of Health Sciences, is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

The open house will feature tours of the patient simulation lab led by nursing students as well as displays demonstrating the breadth of the college’s offerings including the Center for Active Living, the Flying Carrot, tips on balance and posture, and immunities.<\/p>\n

Parking is free and light hors d’oeuvres will be served. The Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences will have a 50th anniversary celebration Nov. 17 at University Hall.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

While UCCS is turning 50 years old this year, the Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences can trace its history in Colorado Springs back more than 100 years.<\/p>\n

In April, the CU Board of Regents voted unanimously to name the college the Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences in recognition of an $8 million grant from Denver-based Helen K. and Arthur E. Johnson Foundation.<\/p>\n

The Beth-El College of Nursing was established in 1904 by an agency of the Methodist Church. The school was purchased by the City of Colorado Springs in 1943 and became part of the then-city owned Memorial Hospital. In 1983, Beth-El received accreditation as a professional college. In 1997, following a public vote, Beth-El merged with the University of Colorado Colorado Springs.<\/p>\n
