An annual campus tradition is scheduled for Oct. 27, 28, 29 in the University Center.<\/p>\n

Bonfils Blood Center hopes to collect more than 180 pints of blood, an amount that will help more than 560 people suffering the effects of disease or recovering from surgery or injury, according to Morgan Dunmire, community donor representative, Bonfils Blood Center.<\/p>\n

The blood drive will be from 10 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. all three days in UC 116.<\/p>\n

A donation takes about an hour. Appointments may be made by calling Bonfils at (800) 365-0006, ext.2, or visiting https:\/\/donors.bonfils.org<\/a>, site code A390. Walk-ins are also accepted.<\/p>\n

The tradition of Halloween blood drives at UCCS dates to the mid-1980s when former accounting supervisor Juan Garcia organized the event, dressing as Count Dracula to make it more fun for workers and donors alike. The tradition was continued by Gayanne Scott, assistant vice chancellor for finance and human resources, Administration and Finance, who served as chair or co-chair of the drive from 1996 to 2003. Various department staff members continued to chair the drive and were later joined by Ida Dilwood, director, Office of Disability Services. Dilwood serves as the drive’s chair this year.<\/p>\n

Bonfils became the university’s blood drive partner in 2013.<\/p>\n
