\"Newinstructors\"<\/a>More than 30 new faculty members joined UCCS for the fall semester. Today\u2019s installment includes\u00a020 instructors from the College of Education, College of Engineering and Applied Science, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences, and Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences.<\/p>\n

Last week, new assistant and associate professors<\/a> were introduced.<\/p>\n

\"Haleh<\/a>
Haleh Abghari<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Haleh Abghari,<\/strong> instructor, Music Program, Department of Visual and Performing Arts, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.\u00a0 Abghari previously performed internationally and taught classes at the University of Buffalo, James Madison University and the Mannes College of Music.\u00a0She earned a master\u2019s degree from the Peabody Institute, Baltimore, and bachelor\u2019s degree from the University of California, Davis.\u00a0Abghari was a Fulbright Scholar in Budapest, Hungary, and worked as a music programmer and host for WNYC and WQXR public radio stations.<\/p>\n

William L Bahn<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

William Bahn,<\/strong> instructor, Department of Computer Science, College of Engineering and Applied Science. Bahn previously was a visiting assistant teaching professor at Colorado School of Mines, and held senior research scientist and instructor of computer science positions at the United States Air Force Academy. He earned a Ph.D. from UCCS and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Colorado School of Mines.<\/p>\n

Josephine Benavidez<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Josephine Benavidez,<\/strong> instructor, Department of Communication, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. For the past 18 years, Benavidez directed the UCCS Pre-Collegiate Development Program. She earned a master’s degree from UCCS and bachelor’s degree from California State University, Fullerton.<\/p>\n

Beverly Buchanan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Beverly Buchanan,<\/strong> instructor, Department of Languages and Cultures, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Buchanan previously taught at Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind, Rocky Mountain Deaf School, Golden, and Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C. She earned a Ph.D. from Gallaudet University, a master’s from Western Maryland College and a bachelor’s degree from Gallaudet.<\/p>\n

Gina Burton,<\/strong> instructor, Department of Health Sciences, Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Burton previously was supervisor at AspenPointe Enterprises, Colorado Springs, and a manager for the RAF Lakenheath Fitness Center, Suffolk, England. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma, Norman, and bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Colorado, now Colorado State University, Pueblo.<\/p>\n

Carlos Diaz<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Carlos Diaz,<\/strong> instructor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Diaz previously was an instructor, graduate research assistant and teaching assistant at the University of Central Florida, Orlando. He earned a Ph.D. from the University of Central Florida and a bachelor’s degree from Central University of Venezuela, Caracas.<\/p>\n

Daniel Driscoll,<\/strong> instructor, Department of Economics, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Driscoll previously was an instructor and assistant professor at the United States Air Force Academy and an Air Force officer. He earned master’s degrees from the University of Oklahoma and The Air University and a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University.<\/p>\n

Follett previously held teaching middle and high school teaching positions and worked with the UCCS Bachelor of Innovation program and UCCS Extended Studies. She earned master’s and biology degrees from UCCS.<\/p>\n

Cory Gavitt,<\/strong> senior instructor, UCCSTeach Program, College of Education and College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Gavitt previously was a middle school teacher in Colorado Springs and was a geologist. He earned a master’s degree from UCCS and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.<\/p>\n

She previously was an assistant professor at the United States Air Force Academy and was an Air Force officer. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of Rochester Medical Center, master’s degrees from the University of Rochester Medical Center and the University of Michigan School of Public Health, and a bachelor’s degree from the United States Air Force Academy.<\/p>\n

Hawkinson previously was a nurse for University of Colorado Health Memorial Hospital and was a U.S. Navy Nursing Corps officer. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Phoenix and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Colorado Denver.<\/p>\n

Tacy Killingsworth,<\/strong> instructor, Department of Leadership, Research and Foundations, College of Education. Killingsworth previously was director of elementary education for Douglas County School District, director of instruction in Harrison School District 2 and held teaching and school principal positions in the area. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Arizona and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern Colorado, now Colorado State University, Pueblo.<\/p>\n

Hollis McLeroy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Hollis McLeroy<\/strong>, instructor, Department of Biology, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. McLeroy previously was an instructor at Front Range Community College, Fort Collins, and a teaching assistant at the CU School of Medicine. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Colorado Denver and a bachelor’s degree from Colorado Mesa University, Grand Junction.<\/p>\n

Tisha Mendiola Jessup<\/strong>, instructor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Mendiola-Jessup previously was a science teacher at Springs Community Night School and a teaching lab assistant at UCCS. She earned master’s and bachelor’s degrees from UCCS.<\/p>\n

Lori Notestine<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Lori Notestine<\/strong>, instructor, Department of Counseling and Human Services, College of Education. Notestine previously was an instructor at Adams State University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, a master’s from Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington, and a bachelor’s degree from Northern Arizona University.<\/p>\n

\n

Solveig Olsen,<\/strong> instructor, Music Program, Department of Visual and Performing Arts, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Olsen previously was an adjunct faculty member at UCCS, a faculty member at the Colorado Springs Conservatory, music director for The Public Theater, New York, and a private vocal instructor. He earned a master’s degree from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Iowa.<\/p>\n

Marsha Ostovich,<\/strong> instructor, Department of Nursing, Helen and Arthur E. Johnson Beth-El College of Nursing. Ostovich previously was a hospital staff nurse and served as nurse in the United States Air Force. She earned master’s degrees from the University of Phoenix and Valdosta State University, Valdosta, Georgia, and a bachelor’s degree from Seattle University.<\/p>\n

Daniel Shea<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Daniel<\/strong> Shea<\/strong>, instructor, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Shea previously held various positions within the United States Air Force including\u00a0assistant professor at the United States Air Force Academy and various scientist and\u00a0chemist\u00a0assignments\u00a0as an officer. He was also\u00a0an adjunct instructor at Pikes Peak Community College and Colorado Community Colleges. He earned a master’s degree from Arizona State University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Florida.<\/p>\n

Tiffany Tinsley Weeks<\/strong>, instructor, Theater and Dance Program, Department of Visual and Performing Arts, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Tinsley Weeks previously performed in numerous dance workshops. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida.<\/p>\n

Ida Wilding<\/strong>, instructor, Department of Languages and Cultures, College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. Wilding previously was a teacher and coach at Colorado School for the Deaf and the Blind and held teaching positions at the Maryland School for the Deaf, New Mexico School for the Deaf and American School for the Deaf, West Hartford, Connecticut. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Gallaudet University, Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n
