{"id":18294,"date":"2015-03-31T16:23:16","date_gmt":"2015-03-31T22:23:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=18294"},"modified":"2015-03-31T16:23:16","modified_gmt":"2015-03-31T22:23:16","slug":"healthcircle-launches-community-health-education-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=18294","title":{"rendered":"HealthCircle launches Community Health Education series"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_12815\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12815\" style=\"width: 157px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/MKluge150x150opt.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-12815\" src=\"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/MKluge150x150opt.jpg\" alt=\"Mary Ann Kluge\" width=\"157\" height=\"158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/MKluge150x150opt.jpg 157w, https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/MKluge150x150opt-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 157px) 100vw, 157px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12815\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mary Ann Kluge<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>UCCS HealthCircle clinics will begin a free, monthly Community Health Education Series targeted to adults.<\/p>\n<p>The first seminar, \u201cA Balancing Act: Strategies to Enhance Balance and Prevent Falls for All Ages,\u201d will be presented by Mary Ann Kluge, director, Center for Active Living, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. April 7 at the Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to utilize the expertise of the UCCS HealthCircle faculty and staff to provide meaningful health education for the community,\u201d Michael Bigelow, senior executive for clinical activities, UCCS HealthCircle, said. \u201cThis series aligns with our mission to help empower people to live healthier and happier lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kluge will focus her presentation to adults who want to improve balance and develop a plan to keep balance systems functioning at high levels as they age.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA surprising number of people in their 20s and 30s show muscular imbalances, likely from sitting so much\u2014and this can lead over time to a loss in range of motion in the joints,\u201d Kluge said. \u201cWhen balance and mobility are compromised, long-term effects can eventually include physical deformity and disability. Early education can help people plan to exercise before it\u2019s too late.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Falling and injuries from falls are at epidemic rates, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This presentation will provide attendees with practical strategies to help stay active and injury-free.<\/p>\n<p>The second seminar in the series, \u201cNutrition for You: Strategies to individualize your nutrition plan for optimal health,\u201d will be presented by Julie Anderson, director, Peak Nutrition Clinic, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., May 5, at the Lane Center for Academic Health Sciences.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8212; Rebecca Tonn<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>UCCS HealthCircle clinics will begin a free, monthly Community Health Education Series targeted to adults.
