While most are familiar with the Thanksgiving shopping traditions of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the philanthropic event #GivingTuesday is on the rise.<\/p>\n

UCCS will participate in the unofficial national day of giving by hosting a complimentary breakfast at Clyde\u2019s in the University Center between 8:30 a.m. \u2013 10 a.m. Dec. 2, where faculty, staff, students and alumni are asked to stop by and donate in an effort to raise funds for scholarships, research and outreach.<\/p>\n

The main focus of the campaign is the Reach Your Peak Scholarship Fund, which provides awards for high-achieving and high-potential students in need of financial support.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would not be where I am today without this scholarship,\u201d Benjamin Jourdan,\u00a0a 2011 UCCS and Reach Your Peak Scholarship alumnus, said. \u201cIn fact, I would not have been able to afford to go to university at all without it.\u201d<\/p>\n

According Jaime Garcia, executive director, University Development, while 367 students applied for the Reach Your Peak Scholarship during the 2013\u20132014 academic year, only 85 scholarships could be awarded because of funding.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is our chance to help provide for our students in need. Every gift, large or small, helps make a difference,\u201d Garcia said. \u201cThis is a unique opportunity to see first hand how our dollars impact UCCS, whether it\u2019s watching a scholarship recipient graduate, or being able to work on a program previously not funded.\u201d<\/p>\n

CU-Boulder, CU Denver and the Anschutz Medical Campus\u00a0will also participate in #GivingTuesday events.<\/p>\n

Those planning to attend the #GivingTuesday breakfast are encouraged to\u00a0RSVP to Jennifer Hane, director, Alumni Relations, at jhane@uccs.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n
