\"Screen<\/a>The Center for Homeland Security in the School of Public Affairs will change its name as part of a new focus.<\/p>\n

Now the Center for Human Security, the new name more accurately reflects the expansive nature of security, and is designed to grow additional, non-traditional capabilities, according to Steve Recca, executive director.<\/p>\n

The name change was approved by Terry Schwartz, interim dean, School of Public Affairs, and Chancellor Pam Shockley-Zalabak.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe term human security provides a human-centric approach to enhancing and sustaining the security, safety, and well-being of the individual, our families, communities and nation,\u201d Recca said. \u201cA human-centric framework shifts the lens from viewing manmade and natural security challenges as event- or government-centric. By focusing on people as the core, people become solution-enablers rather than merely objects requiring security and response resources.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Center for Human Security will retains its security-focused mission to mobilize communities for the integrated and effective prevention, preparation, and response to man-made and natural disaster disruption to human security through research, technical assistance, and training.<\/p>\n
