{"id":17224,"date":"2014-11-20T16:34:39","date_gmt":"2014-11-20T23:34:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=17224"},"modified":"2014-11-21T12:07:49","modified_gmt":"2014-11-21T19:07:49","slug":"november-forum-highlights-changes-in-research-efforts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=17224","title":{"rendered":"November forum highlights changes in research support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"740\" height=\"417\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OpyrnjqTjr4?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Office of Sponsored Programs will move, add staff, and change its name as part of an effort to meet campus strategic plan goals and meet the needs of faculty conducting scholarly works.<\/p>\n<p>Mary Coussons-Read, executive vice chancellor, Academic Affairs, and Kelli Klebe, associate vice chancellor for research and faculty development, Academic Affairs, shared a variety of changes designed help faculty be successful in research and creative works during a November 11 campus forum.<\/p>\n<p>The Office of Sponsored Programs will move from Main Hall to the Academic Office Building Nov. 25 and be renamed Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Integrity, Klebe said. Additionally, the department will double its staff to four individuals dedicated to helping faculty with sponsored program activity. A research compliance specialist search is underway and a pre-award specialist search will begin in December.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re really here to help you do your research with integrity and to stay out of trouble,\u201d Klebe said. \u201cAnd, do good research.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coussons-Read and Klebe also emphasized electronic tools that are available to help faculty connect with each other or to learn who else on campus might have similar interests.<\/p>\n<p>A website, <a href=\"http:\/\/vivo.uccs.edu\/\">http:\/\/vivo.uccs.edu<\/a>, uses faculty professional activity reports to create a database of faculty members across CU campuses and their interests.<\/p>\n<p>Klebe demonstrated the database by typing \u201ccriminal justice\u201d into the site\u2019s search box. The search produced expected results of faculty members in the School of Public Affairs, home to criminal justice studies. But it also showed a College of Education faculty member.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re interested in finding other people on campus who are doing similar research to you or complimentary research to you when you\u2019re trying to put together a team, you can search in Vivo under topic, department or researcher,\u201d Klebe said. \u201cYou can also search the faculty at Boulder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Coussons-Read emphasized that while UCCS will not be a large graduate-intensive institution, the campus should develop its strengths in specific areas, develop opportunities, and embrace the connection between teaching, research and student experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of the research that we do never gets a lot of external funding,\u201d Coussons-Read said. \u201cBut it\u2019s still transformation for faculty and for students.
