Dozens of UCCS faculty, staff and students braved high winds and cold temperatures Nov. 10 to unveil a new monument highlighting student veterans\u2019 military service.<\/p>\n
The mosaic monument depicts three cycles of a student veteran\u2019s journey: their service, the transition to being a student, and graduation. It is located on the wall outside of Caf\u00e9 65 between the University Center and the Engineering and Applied Science building.<\/p>\n
The project was a collaborative endeavor between faculty, staff, students, community and Concrete Couch, a Colorado Springs non-profit organization that focuses on community collaborations through art. The $7,000 project was funded through the UCCS Student Government Association.<\/p>\n
UCCS community members also participated in a Remembrance Day National Roll Call on Nov. 11 in celebration of Veterans Day.<\/p>\n
At more than 100 colleges and universities across the nation, the names of more than 6,700 military personnel killed in Iraq and Afghanistan wars were read. The reading began at 11 a.m. and continued until 2 p.m.<\/p>\n
