With the holiday season underway for many faiths, the Office of Diversity and Inclusion is reminding the campus community to be respectful of differing faiths and viewpoints.<\/p>\n

Kee Warner, associate vice chancellor, Office of Diversity and Inclusiveness, reiterated the campus policy and shared a calendar of events compiled by an interfaith organization.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlease be mindful of the variety of religious observances and ceremonial obligations that may be important to your colleagues, coworkers, and students,\u201d Warner said.<\/p>\n

A UCCS campus policy states the university will try to avoid scheduling university-sponsored events in conflict with religious holidays. The policy also says the university will provide \u201creasonable accommodations for staff, faculty and students whose sincerely held religious or spiritual beliefs, practices and ceremonial obligations conflict with work schedules or academic activities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reasonable accommodation might include allowing a staff member to change work schedules or a student to reschedule an exam, Warner said.<\/p>\n
