Robert Audi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A philosopher and ethicist with experience at both public and religiously affiliated private universities, will address religion in the workplace during a 5 p.m. Oct. 2 lecture in University Center theater, Room 302.<\/p>\n

Robert Audi, the O\u2019Brien Professor of Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame, will deliver \u201cReligious Accommodation in the Workplace: Diversity, Discourse and Healthcare.\u201d The event is open to all UCCS faculty, staff and students and is sponsored by the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative and the Center for Religious Diversity and Public Life.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr. Audi is a trailblazer in the fields of epistemology and ethics, and we are honored to have him visit our campus. His chosen topic for this lecture is timely given recent Supreme Court cases and the complex issue of religious freedom in the workplace as it relates to healthcare.\u201d Jeff Scholes, assistant professor, Department of Philosophy, said.<\/p>\n

Audi\u2019s work focuses on the theory of action and political philosophy, especially the relationship between church and state. His research interests focus on ethics, political philosophy, epistemology, religious epistemology, and philosophy of mind and action.<\/p>\n

He is the author or editor of numerous books and articles, including \u201cMoral Perception,\u201d \u201cDemocratic Authority and the Separation of Church and State,\u201d \u201cRationality and Religious Commitment,\u201d \u201cBusiness Ethics and Ethical Business,\u201d \u201cMoral Value and Human Diversity,\u201d \u201cPractical Reasoning and Ethical Decision,\u201d \u201cThe Good in the Right: A Theory of Intuition and Intrinsic Value,\u201d \u201cThe Architecture of Reason: The Structure and Substance of Rationality,\u201d \u201cReligious Commitment and Secular Reason\u201d and Epistemology: A Contemporary Introduction to the Theory of Knowledge.\u201d<\/p>\n

Audi is a past president of the American Philosophical Association, a former editor of The Journal of Philosophical Research, and a former director of the National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institutes and Seminars on knowledge and justification. He is editor-in-chief of \u201cThe Cambridge Dictionary of Philosophy\u201d and past president of the American Philosophical Association and the Society of Christian Philosophers.<\/p>\n

Prior to joining the faculty at Notre Dame, Audi was a member of the faculty at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, and University of Texas, Austin.<\/p>\n
