The Office of Veteran and Military Student Affairs and Student Veteran Organization are building a monument to highlight student veterans\u2019 military service.<\/p>\n

The mosaic monument will depict the three cycles of a student veteran\u2019s journey, their service, the transition to being a student and graduation. It will be located on the wall outside of Caf\u00e9 65 between the University Center and the Engineering and Applied Science building.<\/p>\n

\"IMG_0795\"<\/a>According to Phillip Morris, director, Office of Veteran and Military Student Affairs,\u00a0the monument will help create a welcoming environment for veterans.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew students often come to UCCS looking for ways to connect and feel welcomed,\u201d Morris said. \u201cVeterans are no different and this monument will help connect them to UCCS by showing them that we understand and recognize the sacrifices they\u2019ve made and will support them throughout their journey.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"IMG_0808\"<\/a>The installation is a collaborative endeavor between faculty, staff, students, community and Concrete Couch, a Colorado Springs non-profit organization that focuses on community collaborations through art.<\/p>\n

The $7,000 project is funded through the UCCS Student Government Association and\u00a0construction will take place\u00a0every Friday between 1 p.m. \u2013 3 p.m. until early Nov. All faculty, staff and students are welcome to participate in the construction.<\/p>\n

A dedication ceremony is planned for 10 a.m. Nov. 10.<\/p>\n
