UCCS students, staff and faculty will kickoff Homecoming 2014 at a Sept. 18\u00a0spirit rally that features the lighting of\u00a0the Pedestrian Spine.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. on El Pomar Plaza and will include free food and drinks, a meet-and-greet with UCCS student-athletes, team coaches, and representatives from UCCS clubs and organizations.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Homecoming gives students, faculty and staff a chance\u00a0to celebrate their part in the university and how great they make this place,”\u00a0Stephen Cucchiara, assistant director, Office of Student Activities, said. “Strong school spirit helps unify students\u00a0through the common interests of being a Mountain Lion and making their college experience the best that it can be.”<\/p>\n

The rally will end with the Pedestrian Spine being lit with CU-colored lights that lead to an illuminated set of giant UCCS letters overlooking El Pomar Plaza. The\u00a0walkway will remain lit throughout the Homecoming week.<\/p>\n

Banner Creation and Decoration
\n<\/a><\/strong>Sept. 18 | 11\u00a0a.m.\u00a0\u2013 4 p.m. | Student Life Office<\/p>\n

Join club and organization leaders as they come create, decorate, and hang banners representing their student organizations. Banners will be displayed at the Spirit Rally and prizes will be awarded for the most decorative banner.<\/p>\n

The March<\/strong><\/a>
\nSept. 19 | 3 p.m. | Housing Turf Quad<\/p>\n

Faculty, staff and students will don UCCS gear and walk en masse from Summit Village to Mountain Lion Stadium\u00a0to tailgate with music, prizes, and free food before watching the UCCS women\u2019s and men\u2019s soccer\u00a0games.<\/p>\n

Men’s Soccer vs. Metro State

The UCCS men’s soccer team opens the 2014 conference season against Metro State.<\/p>\n

Homecoming Bonfire
\n<\/a>Sept. 19 | 9 p.m. |\u00a04 Diamonds Softball Field<\/p>\n

A long-standing homecoming tradition, warm up after\u00a0cheering the women\u2019s and men\u2019s soccer teams to victory. There will be plenty of s’mores, free food, great music and many competitions.<\/p>\n

Homecoming Formal and Casino Night
\n<\/a>Sept. 20 |\u00a0 8\u00a0p.m. \u2013 1 a.m. | Gallogly Events Center<\/p>\n

Come out for food, dancing and a professionally dealt casino where tickets won can be used to bid during the silent auction. Tickets are $10\u00a0for individual and $15 couples.<\/p>\n

Family Hike
\n<\/a>Sept. 21 | 10 a.m. \u2013 1 p.m. | Recreation Center<\/p>\n

Join Andrea Hassler, trails specialist, Recreation Center for a hike along\u00a0campus trails system. Leaving the Recreation Center, the group will hike along the bluffs behind campus to the Heller Center before looping back. Participants should bring their own water and \u00a0wear closed-toe\u00a0shoes, weather-appropriate clothes and sunscreen.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
