A UCCS assistant professor of geography will join with a National Weather Service meteorologist to deliver the inaugural \u201cNight with a Geographer\u201d lecture at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at the Steelworks Center of the West, 215 Canal Street, Pueblo.<\/p>\n

Brandon Vogt, assistant professor, UCCS Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, will join with Steven Hodanish, senior meteorologist, National Weather Service, to deliver \u201cThe Colorado Lightningscape.” In their remarks, Vogt and Hodanish will describe lightning and landscape interactions by Colorado county, national and state parks, and populated areas. Vogt and Hodanish will begin their presentation at 7:30 p.m. A tour of the Steelworks Center of the West begins at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be available at 6:45 p.m.<\/p>\n

The Steelworks Center of the West, originally established in 2000 as the Bessemer Historical Society, operates the Steelworks Museum and Steelworks Archives in Pueblo. Utilizing the archives of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company, a collection of more than 100,000 photographs, 150 films and 30,000 maps, drawings, ledgers and personnel records, the story of 20th<\/sup> century southern Colorado industry is told.<\/p>\n

The Colorado Geographic Alliance, one of 54 geographic alliances across the country, is based at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. It is supported by a grant from the National Geographic Society\u2019s Geographic Education Foundation to encourage geography education.
