{"id":15983,"date":"2014-09-03T10:36:46","date_gmt":"2014-09-03T16:36:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=15983"},"modified":"2018-01-19T08:37:11","modified_gmt":"2018-01-19T15:37:11","slug":"video-feature-als-ice-bucket-challenge-sweeps-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=15983","title":{"rendered":"Video feature: ALS Ice Bucket Challenge sweeps campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>UCCS Chancellor Pam\u00a0Shockley-Zalabak joined the ranks of Bill Gates, Oprah and Taylor Swift when she accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge\u00a0Aug. 29.<\/p>\n<p>The viral social media campaign\u00a0involves\u00a0dumping a bucket of ice water on someone&#8217;s head to promote awareness of the disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and to encourage donations to research.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"740\" height=\"417\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ysdmmkxWQQg?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Shockley-Zalabak was challenged to complete the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge by\u00a0Jill Tiefenthaler, president, Colorado College, and a family friend from Oklahoma whose father died of ALS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re here tonight to do something that is both great fun, and very serious and very important,\u201d Shockley-Zalabak said. &#8220;This is one of the important diseases for which we\u2019re all making contributions and looking for a cure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Shockley-Zalabak was joined by Tamara Moore,\u00a0executive director, Auxiliary Services,\u00a0Gary Reynolds, assistant vice chancellor for administration,\u00a0Administration and Finance, Ralph\u00a0Giese, director, Residential Life and Housing, Molly Kinne, assistant\u00a0director, Residential Life and Housing,\u00a0Ida Bauer, director, Family Development Center, Andrea Cordova, <span style=\"color: #444444;\">professional assistant, Office of the Chancellor,\u00a0<\/span>the mascot Clyde and about 20 residence hall assistants.<\/p>\n<p>A number of other campus offices, departments and teams participated in the Ice Bucket Challenge in the previous few weeks.
