Charlie Sweet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

University of Colorado Boulder Chancellor Philip P. DiStefano\u00a0recently announced the appointment of Charles V. \u201cCharlie\u201d Sweet as vice chancellor and managing senior associate university counsel for the CU-Boulder campus. The appointment is effective Sept. 1.<\/p>\n

Sweet has long ties to the University of Colorado system, having served as vice president and university counsel for the CU System from 1994 to 2007. Before that, from 1988 to 1994, he served as associate university counsel and the designated counsel for the CU-Boulder campus. Most recently, he served as executive director of strategic planning and initiatives at UCCS from 2010 to 2014. From 2008 through 2009, Sweet was a partner in the Denver office of the law firm of Holme Roberts & Owen.<\/p>\n

Prior to coming to Boulder, Sweet served as general counsel for Old Dominion University in Virginia.<\/p>\n

\u201cCharlie\u2019s long association with the University of Colorado and his esteem in the higher education legal community made him a natural pick for this important post,\u201d said DiStefano. \u201cHe will be a strong advocate for the campus\u2019s legal interests, and a great strategic partner for our faculty, staff, students and administrators.\u201d<\/p>\n

The managing senior associate university counsel holds a senior position in the Office of University Counsel. In this position, Sweet will be responsible for the legal functions for CU-Boulder, and will advise the chancellor, the cabinet and CU-Boulder\u2019s combined executive leadership on legal and policy matters. The position reports to the vice president and university counsel and supervises a staff of four attorneys and two support staff in CU-Boulder\u2019s legal offices.<\/p>\n

As a campus vice chancellor, Sweet will report to the chancellor and serve as an officer of the campus and a member of the chancellor\u2019s cabinet. In this role, he will be responsible for the implementation of campus goals and objectives related to the provision of legal services and for the successful implementation of the campus\u2019s strategic plans.<\/p>\n

I look forward to helping the chancellor and the campus leadership ensure student success, financial and operational integrity, and a great local, national and global reputation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sweet earned a bachelor\u2019s degree from Duke University and a law degree from the University of Virginia. He is a member of the bar in both Colorado and Virginia.<\/p>\n
