Two\u00a0Aug. 18\u00a0ribbon-cutting ceremonies\u00a0will celebrate the completion of UCCS\u2019s newest additions, the Academic Office Building and Alpine Parking Garage and Field, just in time for fall semester.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0ribbon for the Alpine Parking Garage and Field will be cut at 11 a.m., with the\u00a0Academic Office Building ceremony following at 1 p.m.<\/span><\/p>\n

Both ceremonies will include brief remarks by university dignitaries and\u00a0refreshments. Once the ribbons are cut, attendees will be able to tour the two facilities.<\/p>\n

About the Alpine Parking Garage and Field<\/strong><\/p>\n

The project adds more than\u00a0will add 1,200 new parking spots, as well as two multi-purpose turf athletic fields on the roof. The roof will be surrounded by\u00a015 foot nets to keep\u00a0balls from entering Austin Bluffs. The garage was originally slated to open in May 2014 but was delayed due to severe winter weather.<\/p>\n

The $23-million project\u00a0is\u00a0paid for through student fees and parking permit sales. State policy prohibits the use of general funds for parking.<\/p>\n

About the Academic Office Building<\/strong><\/p>\n

The $16 million 44,000 square foot building \u2013 roughly the size of Main Hall \u2013 houses several departments of the College of Letters, Arts and Sciences as well as the School of Public Affairs on five floors.<\/p>\n

Built into a hillside, the building has an entrance from parking lot 6 as well as a main entrance from Regent Circle. The main entrance will feature an atrium with views to the west that Reynolds believes will provide visitors with a positive initial UCCS experience. Approximately 100 offices and several conference rooms are planned as is extensive landscaping and a direct path to Columbine Hall classrooms.<\/p>\n
