The Steel & Silver Series traveling trophy will remain at UCCS.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

UCCS won its ninth consecutive victory in the annual Steel & Silver Series all-sport competition with Colorado State-Pueblo, athletic departments at the two schools announced June 5.<\/p>\n

The Mountain Lions clinched the trophy with the best grade point average between the two schools in the teams involved in the series.<\/p>\n

UCCS won the 2013-14 trophy by a 25-24 margin, the closest in the nine-year history of the traveling trophy. The Mountain Lions secured the trophy with a 3.139 GPA among student-athletes in the shared sports. UCCS scored five points in the GPA category and the maximum four points in men’s soccer, volleyball, women’s cross country and men’s basketball. The schools split in women’s basketball and softball, and CSU-Pueblo scored the maximum points in women’s soccer, women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, and men’s and women’s golf.<\/p>\n

The all-sport competition awards four points for each of the sports that both schools sponsor. Regular season meetings are scored in men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, and softball, while the conference championship results are used to score women’s cross country, women’s indoor and outdoor track and field, and men’s and women’s golf. Five points are awarded to the school with the highest GPA among for student-athletes who competed in the 2013-14 seasons.<\/p>\n
