UCCS will continue to strongly recommend COVID-19 vaccinations for all in our campus community as a safe, effective tool for minimizing the effects of COVID-19.\u00a0<br><br>Both nationally and locally, we are in a different phase of COVID-19 where cases have decreased significantly thanks to widespread uptake of the vaccine, population immunity and the availability of effective therapeutics. We are making this change to our requirements now in alignment with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The federal government preparing to end the COVID-19 public health emergency&nbsp;on May 11<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The state of Colorado having ended its vaccine and testing requirements for&nbsp;state employees in August 2022<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Our university peers across the country who are increasingly making similar&nbsp;changes to their policies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While vaccine requirements are ending, the university will continue to provide COVID-19 testing for students.\u00a0COVID testing is currently available by appointment. To schedule an appointment, please call the Wellness Center at 719-255-4444.<br><br>As we have since the start of the pandemic, the university will adjust our protocols as necessary to remain aligned with public health guidance.<br><br>&#8220;I want you to know how grateful I am for the commitment of our campus community during the COVID-19 pandemic,&#8221; said UCCS Chancellor Venkat Reddy in an email to campus. &#8220;Your efforts to get vaccinated and wear masks saved lives and enabled the university to reopen and remain open to in-person instruction, research and operations.&#8221;<br><br>&#8220;My hope is that you will continue to take actions that protect yourselves and each other.
