The Karen Possehl Women\u2019s Endowment (KPWE) scholarship is pleased to announce this year\u2019s annual KPWE Unstoppable Women\u2019s Event will take place from 5 \u2013 7 p.m. on Monday, May 15 at the Ent Center for the Arts. Individual and group tickets can be purchased here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s KPWE fundraiser and celebration will recognize the graduating KPWE scholars and honor Susan Edmondson as the 2023 Unstoppable Woman.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUCCS is thrilled to have Susan Edmondson as the 2023 KPWE Unstoppable Woman,\u201d said Venkat Reddy, Chancellor of UCCS. \u201cSusan is an alumna of UCCS and has been an active member of our community, and her dedication to making a positive impact has certainly been inspirational. She has shown her passion for this city through various initiatives to revitalize and bring meaningful changes to the downtown area. This is a well-deserved honor, and she makes our Mountain Lion family proud.\u201d   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guests at the Unstoppable Women\u2019s Event can expect to learn more about the scholarship and the KPWE graduating scholars and will be encouraged to make a gift to the scholarship program. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe KPWE scholarship is supported by a community of generous and compassionate individuals, groups and organizations,\u201d said Lee Ingalls Noble, chair of the KPWE advisory board. \u201cThis is another year for us to build upon collective efforts that help to transform women\u2019s lives. Our scholars are such amazing women, and we are proud to have Susan Edmonson recognized as the 2023 Unstoppable Woman.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

KPWE\u2019s mission is to support nontraditional UCCS students who are starting or returning to college after having overcome significant personal adversity by providing financial assistance and mentor support. The scholarship, which was recently increased from a $5,000 annual award to a $6,000 award,<\/a> also provides career-focused workshops, giving students the chance to learn more outside of the classroom. Thanks to community support, the program that was endowed in 1998 by Karen and Jim Possehl continues to positively impact the lives of scholars.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

About Susan Edmonson, President & CEO of Downtown Partnership of Colorado Springs <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Susan Edmondson is President & CEO of Downtown Partnership of Colorado Springs, a membership organization ensuring that downtown serves as the economic, civic and cultural heart of the city. In that role, she helms four corporate entities — two nonprofits and two tax districts \u2013 and has led an economic resurgence of over $2 billion of new investment into the city center. Previously, she served 10 years as executive director of the Bee Vradenburg Foundation, a private foundation supporting the arts in the Pikes Peak region. She served for seven years as arts \u2013and entertainment editor at The Gazette in Colorado Springs and also has worked for daily newspapers in Nevada and California. She holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in journalism from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and a master\u2019s degree in public administration at UCCS. About the KPWE Scholarship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The KPWE scholarship established in 1998 by Karen and Jim Possehl, provides financial assistance and mentor support for nontraditional UCCS students who are starting or returning to college after having overcome significant personal adversity. In addition to providing tuition assistance, KPWE matches scholars with community mentors who offer encouragement and professional contacts. The program provides career-focused workshops giving students the chance to gain skills outside of the classroom. Since the program\u2019s inception, more than 200 KPWE scholars have graduated from UCCS.
