Registration is open for the 2023 University of Colorado Social Justice Summit<\/a>, which will feature a keynote talk by author, scholar and educator Bettina L. Love and a conversation with all four CU chancellors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The theme of the virtual, biennial summit is \u201cOperationalizing Liberation for a Diverse Democracy,\u201d and the systemwide event is open to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, university staff and frontline employees from CU Boulder, CU Denver, UCCS, the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, and the CU system office in Denver. Alumni and other community members may also attend the summit.<\/p>\n\n\n

Bettina L. Love<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The keynote speaker, Bettina L. Love, is the William F. Russell professor at Columbia University\u2019s Teachers College, and she will give a talk for the CU community titled, \u201cWe Gon\u2019 Be Alright, But That Ain\u2019t Alright: Abolitionist Teaching and the Pursuit of Educational Freedom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Love is the author of \u201cWe Want to Do More Than Survive: Abolitionist Teaching and the Pursuit of Educational Freedom\u201d and \u201cHip Hop\u2019s Li\u2019l Sistas Speak: Negotiating Hip Hop Identities and Politics in the New South.\u201d Her presentations center on abolitionist teaching, education reform, anti-racism, hip hop education, Black girlhood, queer youth, hip hop feminism, art-based education to foster youth civic engagement, and issues of diversity and inclusion. During its 50th anniversary celebration, the Kennedy Center named Love one of its Next 50 Leaders making the world a more inspired, inclusive, and compassionate place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Event organizers recommend that participants register early. More information about the full schedule of sessions will become available on the summit webpage<\/a> in early January. Participants may also attend community meetups<\/a> on Jan. 30 to engage in dialogue with peers and colleagues from around the CU system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
