{"id":14343,"date":"2014-03-11T16:37:20","date_gmt":"2014-03-11T22:37:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=14343"},"modified":"2014-03-11T16:39:11","modified_gmt":"2014-03-11T22:39:11","slug":"social-media-guru-author-to-headline-speaker-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=14343","title":{"rendered":"Social media guru, author to headline speaker series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Facebook executive, author and now Broadway singer Randi Zuckerberg, will speak at 7 p.m. April 15 at the Gallogly Events Center.<\/p>\n<p>Zuckerberg, sister of Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and the social media company\u2019s former director of market development, will deliver a discussion of social media, technology, and how it influences lives. They are $2 for students, faculty, staff and active duty military members at the University Center Information Desk. For all others, tickets are $5 and available through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ticketswest.com\/\">http:\/\/www.ticketswest.com\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The event is part of the Significant Speakers Series offered by the Office of Student Activities and Residence Life and Housing. Last year, scientist Neal deGrasse Tyson filled the Gallogly Events Center. In 2012, science educator Bill Nye was the featured speaker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe wanted to go a little different direction this year,\u201d Stephen Cucchiara, assistant director, Student Activities, said. \u201cRandi Zuckerberg will give us many things to think about, just as our previous speakers did, but with a very different tone and feel from what they offered.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zuckerberg, 32, was ranked among 50 \u201cDigital Power Players\u201d by the Hollywood Reporter. She previously was the director of market development and spokeswoman for Facebook and founded Zuckerberg Media where she remains as CEO. She is also editor in chief of Dot Complicated, a digital lifestyle website. At Zuckerberg Media, she has produced digital content for The Clinton Global Initiative, Cirque du Soleil, the United Nations, Conde Nast and Bravo.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, she has been a correspondent for ABC News\/Facebook Democratic Party and Republican Party U.S. Presidential primaries debates in 2008 and as a correspondent for both Republican and Democrat National Conventions in addition to numerous network television appearances.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s is the author of \u201cDot Complicated: Untangling Our Wired Lives,\u201d a New York Times bestseller as well as \u201cSpark Your Career in Advertising\u201d and a children\u2019s book, \u201cDot.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In March, she announced that she would do a two-week stint in \u201cRock of Ages\u201d the Tony Award-nominated musical that celebrates rock music of the 1980s.
