This month, they\u2019re also the perfect way to celebrate Colorado Springs\u2019 history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00a0In celebration of Colorado Springs\u2019 150th anniversary and Bike Month in Colorado, the UCCS Office of Sustainability will offer a history-themed group bike ride on Friday, June 25 from 2\u20135 p.m. Learn about the event <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/sustain.uccs.edu\/get-involved\/CO-bike-month\" target=\"_blank\">online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 8.5 mile bike ride will begin at The Lincoln Center and loop through the Cragmor Neighborhood, surveying five historical markers along the way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John Harner, professor of geography and an all-season bike commuter, will speak on each of the stops. One of UCCS&#8217; resident urban geography experts, Harner will draw on material from his forthcoming book &#8220;Profiting from the Peak: Landscape and Liberty in Colorado Springs,&#8221; which details the growth and expansion of Colorado Springs and will publish in tandem with the city&#8217;s sesquicentennial observations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UCCS\u2019 bike tour will explore the following historical markers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Lincoln Center<\/li><li>AT&amp;SF Railroad<\/li><li>Palmer Park<\/li><li>Cragmor Sanitorium<\/li><li>Subsidence<\/li><li>Alexander Film &amp; Aircraft<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The historical markers \u2014 temporary signs located throughout the city&#8217;s historical districts \u2014 are part of the City of Colorado Springs&#8217; Pedal Our Past programming. They spotlight notable people, places and events from Colorado Springs\u2019 colorful history along five routes throughout the city. Maps of all five routes are available <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/u\/0\/viewer?mid=1bsiKtcKqL3PcCMDqMZcLo1gKp24Ckbhs&amp;ll=38.84393948542361%2C-104.80124090000001&amp;z=12\" target=\"_blank\">online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether you choose to bike alone or with a group, visitors and residents alike are welcome to take their own historical bike tour of the city.
