Of particular relevance to many members of the Colorado Springs community, the scholars will also examine the place of religion in the Trump era, highlighting the concurrent white evangelical and Black prophetic traditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event is open to the general public. West\ngraduated magna cum laude from Harvard in three years and obtained his M.A. and\nPh.D. in philosophy at Princeton. He has written 20 books and has edited 13. He\nis best known for his classics, \u201cRace Matters\u201d and \u201cDemocracy Matters,\u201d and for\nhis memoir, \u201cBrother West: Living and Loving Out Loud.\u201d His most recent book, \u201cBlack\nProphetic Fire,\u201d offers an unflinching look at nineteenth and twentieth-century\nAfrican American leaders and their visionary legacies. West is the co-host\nalong with Tricia Rose of The Tight Rope, a weekly podcast where they welcome\nlisteners and guests as thought collaborators with revered hosts and public\nintellectuals. West is a frequent guest on the Bill Maher Show, CNN, C-Span and\nDemocracy Now. He has a passion to communicate to a vast variety of publics in\norder to keep alive the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. \u2013 a legacy of telling\nthe truth and bearing witness to love and justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Stephany Rose Spaulding<\/strong> is a well sought out keynote speaker, respected commentator on social and political issues and a popular diversity, equity and inclusion workshop facilitator. Drawing on her thorough academic training as a critical race and gender scholar, as well as her work in public advocacy, she is a refreshing voice in justice and liberation practices. She is a tenured associate professor and chair of women&#8217;s and ethnic studies at UCCS and the founder of the Truth and Conciliation Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Jeffrey Scholes<\/strong> is associate professor of religious studies\nin the philosophy department and the director of the Center for Religious\nDiversity and Public Life at UCCS. He has written books and articles on American\npolitical theology and on the relationship between religion and popular\nculture, primarily the sporting world in the United States. He has two books\ncoming out in 2021: \u201cChristianity, Race, and Sport\u201d and \u201cReligion and Sport in\nNorth America\u201d (co-edited with Randall Balmer).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Christopher Hunt<\/strong> is assistant professor of religion\nat Colorado College.
