The annual Karen Possehl Women\u2019s Endowment Luncheon will look different this year with attendees trading a seat in the UCCS Gallogy Event Center for a space within the comfort of their home. This year\u2019s event will be hosted via Zoom from 6-7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 29 to celebrate the 2020 graduates and to honor the unstoppable KPWE community. Registration is open at kpwe.uccs.edu\/unstoppable<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe luncheon is a staple UCCS event that raises support for the KPWE scholarship,\u201d said Lee Ingalls Noble, chair of the KPWE advisory board. \u201cWith the current challenges COVID-19 presents, a virtual event still allows us to connect, celebrate scholars and gain meaningful support.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A tradition of the KPWE\nluncheon is to honor the women in the program and acknowledge an\nunstoppable woman within the community. Earlier in the year, Margaret\nSabin, president of Children\u2019s Hospital Colorado\u2019s Southern\nRegion, was announced as the 2020 Unstoppable\nWoman. Sabin\u2019s recognition will take place in spring\n2021.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCelebrating\nthe ten KPWE scholars may look different but that\ndoes not stop our excitement for the upcoming events,\u201d said Venkat Reddy, UCCS\nChancellor, \u201cKPWE scholars are determined individuals who were given\na chance to rewrite their stories – a story transformed because they\nreceived the KPWE scholarship.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One-hundred percent of\ngifts made to KPWE will directly support student scholarships, while\nregistration and ticket fees help offset event and program\ncosts.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

KPWE awards scholarships to nontraditional women at UCCS returning to college after overcoming personal obstacles. Tickets for the 2020 unstoppable celebration are $25 per person. About KPWE<\/strong>   <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The KPWE Scholarship program, endowed in 1998 by Karen and Jim Possehl, provides financial assistance and mentor support for nontraditional UCCS students who are starting or returning to college after having overcome significant personal adversity. In addition to providing tuition assistance, KPWE matches scholars with community mentors who offer encouragement and professional contacts. The program provides career-focused workshops giving students the chance to learn more outside the classroom. Since its inception, 195 scholarships have been awarded.
