Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center<\/a> fully opened Aug. 24, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The start of\nthe fall semester at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs will bring\ntogether students and faculty for education and research with the medical\nproviders and clinical experts at Centura Penrose-St. Francis Health Services.\nThe combination of the leading educational and health care providers in southern\nColorado will facilitate a laboratory of excellence in the pioneering facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"alignright size-medium\"><a href=\"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-07-IMG_1114-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-07-IMG_1114-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Two doctors look at a computer\" class=\"wp-image-126067\" srcset=\"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-07-IMG_1114-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-07-IMG_1114-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-07-IMG_1114-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-07-IMG_1114-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Led by\nco-directors Bill Lueck from Centura and Steve Johnson from UCCS, the facility\nuses a liberal amount of glass and open space to enable the \u201ccollision\u201d\nphilosophy. Students, faculty, clinicians, doctors, patients and athletes will also\nhave access to a collection of equipment rarely found in a single facility,\nsuch as<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>An altitude chamber will be able to transport users from a sea level atmosphere to the heights of the Himalayas;<\/li><li>An environmental chamber will allow control of altitude, temperature and humidity;<\/li><li>A nutrition laboratory and kitchen will optimize the fuel needed for athletes of all skills and abilities;<\/li><li>A biomechanics laboratory will permit enhanced study of movement;<\/li><li>Specialized equipment will allow athletes with physical disabilities and tactical athletes like firefighters and police officers to train;<\/li><li>A sports medicine clinic will allow medical providers to see patients; and<\/li><li>A sports performance clinic will help athletes to train and optimize achievement.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-default\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-medium\"><a href=\"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-07-IMG_1280-scaled.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" src=\"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-07-IMG_1280-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Faculty and students prepare food in the nutrition laboratory\" class=\"wp-image-126069\" srcset=\"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-07-IMG_1280-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-07-IMG_1280-750x500.jpg 750w, https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-07-IMG_1280-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/2020-07-IMG_1280-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Funded as part\nof the City for Champions project approved by the Colorado Economic Development\nCommission in 2013, the Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center is designed\nto attract users from across the nation. When athletes or patients are not completing\ntreatment or training, they can enjoy the sites in Colorado Springs, including\nanother City for Champions project, the recently completed United States\nOlympic and Paralympic Museum. The two facilities will later be joined by other\nproject initiatives like a new visitor&#8217;s center at the Air Force Academy,\nRobson Arena at Colorado College and Weidner Field in downtown Colorado\nSprings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The facility\nwill be the first to carry the Hybl name. An accomplished state, national and\ninternational leader, William J. Hybl is a two-time president of the United\nStates Olympic and Paralympic Committee, two-time chair of the U.S. Advisory\nCommission on Public Diplomacy and was the United States Representative to the\n56<sup>th<\/sup> General Assembly of the United Nations. He is executive\nchairman of the El Pomar Foundation, chairman of the Board of the International\nFoundation for Electoral Systems and was a civilian aide of the Secretary of\nthe Army.\n\n\n\nArchitects HOK and RTA established an integrated\nteam to design the facility. The Hybl Sports Medicine and Performance Center is\nexpected to achieve LEED Gold status by the U.S. Green Building Council.
