Starting February 15, all UCCS alumni will have access to a new\nresource to support their career development: Handshake, the industry-standard\njobs platform that connects university students and alumni to more than 500,000\nemployers across the globe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the platform launches at UCCS in February, all UCCS\nstudents and alumni will be able to create accounts on the platform to search\nfor jobs, offer mentorship to each other and connect directly with employers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s exciting,\u201d said Claire Ami, Career Outreach\nCoordinator for Career Services, who has overseen the transition from the department\u2019s\nformer jobs and internships platform to Handshake. \u201cIt blows the doors wide\nopen on opportunities across the United States as well as globally \u2013 all on a\nplatform where we can vet each opportunity as it comes in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Using the new platform, UCCS alumni can apply to positions\nposted by employers representing all shapes, sizes and industries \u2013 including\nevery Fortune 500 company. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The platform has become popular for universities across the\ncountry due to its ease of use and algorithm-driven software. It mimics Spotify,\nNetflix and other popular online services by using machine learning to\nrecommend relevant opportunities to users. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As alumni fill out their profiles \u2013 with information like their\ndegree, past experiences, preferred industry and location \u2013 and use the\nplatform to search for jobs, Handshake develops lists of relevant positions\ncurated specifically for the individual. The more alumni use the platform to\nsearch for and apply to jobs, the more relevant its suggestions become.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has also drawn nods across the country for breaking down\nthe barriers faced by job-seekers using other platforms. Rather than relying on\nrecruiters, employers can search for qualified candidates on the platform and\npersonally invite them to apply for opportunities at their organizations.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it also offers opportunities for alumni to offer\nmentorship to current students. As students pose questions on the platform about\nparticular companies or career paths, UCCS alumni can reply back, offering\nmentorship, advice and encouragement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ultimate goal of the platform is to level the playing\nfield for students and alumni seeking employment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All UCCS alumni can log into Handshake starting February 15. To log in, visit the Career Services webpage and select the Handshake banner. Alumni should use the “Handshake Login for Students\/Alumni” portal to request access to the platform.
