The UCCS College of Engineering will add a new online degree track to its Master of Engineering program for the spring 2014 semester.<\/p>\n
The Master of Engineering in Energy Engineering will be an online-only graduate degree focused on the design, installation, operation, improvement, and maintenance of energy systems in the building environment.<\/p>\n
The program will require 30 semester hours in specified coursework focusing on systems, controls and quantifying energy use. Students participating in the program will also be required to complete a capstone project to demonstrate mastery of the overall program content.<\/p>\n
According to William Daughton, program director, Engineering and Applied Sciences Extended Studies, because the program entirely online, it is ideal for students working full time.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe program is ideal for working engineers and technical professionals who have undertaken or may undertake assignments relating to managing the energy needs and requirements of their companies,\u201d Daughton said.<\/p>\n
With only a handful of similar degrees throughout the nation, and the program will be the only one of its kind in southern Colorado.<\/p>\n
Students interested in the program will be required to have a bachelor\u2019s degree in engineering or a related field from an accredited university, a minimum 3.0 undergraduate GPA. Prospective students\u00a0also need two or more years of experience in mechanical, industrial, civil or government engineering and must have completed an engineering economics course.<\/p>\n
