In their announcement, Daniels Fund lauded UCCS for\ntheir excellent contributions to ethics education within the university, local\ncommunity and across southern Colorado.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe are deeply grateful for the renewal of the grant and the Daniels Fund enthusiasm and support for our program at UCCS that focuses on student learning in principle-based ethics across our campus and southern Colorado,\u201d said Tracy Gonzalez-Padron, director of the Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative at UCCS.&nbsp;\u201cThe continued support allows the College of Business to serve as resource for ethics education and student experiential learning, while expanding our reach more broadly in southern Colorado, reinforcing the legacy of Bill Daniels.\u201d &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UCCS will receive $1.625 million over the next\nfive years to fund the objectives determined in the grant proposal, including\nthe introduction of new programs, events, competitions and community outreach\nefforts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the report, UCCS presented key successes of\nthe initiative over the past five years, including: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative at UCCS Southern Colorado Higher Education Consortium Ethics Champion Program. <\/strong>The DFEI at UCCS piloted an ethics champion program to strengthen and expand principle-based ethics education to participating schools across southern Colorado. Through this initiative, resources were offered for curriculum development, outreach and workshops with an opportunity for the selected Ethics Champions to be leaders for ethics education in southern Colorado. UCCS collaborated with nine partner institutions and served over 36,600 students across the southern half of the state. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Southern Colorado\nEducation Consortium Summit. <\/strong>DFEI at UCCS sponsored the first annual Southern\nColorado Education Consortium Summit, gathering all of the participating SCHEC\nschools to discuss \u201cEthics in the Outdoor Industry.\u201d 100 participants engaged\nwith industry leaders on the importance of ethical\nconduct in outdoor and recreational industries.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative at UCCS Business\nEthics Case Competition. <\/strong>For\nnine years, DFEI at UCCS has successfully hosted the UCCS Business Ethics Case\nCompetition. The case competition encourages undergraduate and graduate\nstudents across southern Colorado to showcase their critical thinking and\nethical reasoning skills to a judging panel of business leaders from the\ncommunity. DFEI at UCCS celebrated their largest event participation in 2019\nwith 46 students. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Sponsorship of numerous\nethics speaker series, workshops, competitions and conferences. <\/strong>DFEI at UCCS sponsored many\nsignificant events and conferences over the past five years, including the\ninternationally renowned Play the Game 2019 conference, EthicsFirst, Winning\nwith Integrity, speaker Captain Scott Kelly, the International Society for\nMilitary Ethics annual conference, The Portal, various Lunch and Learns and\nethics competitions, among many others.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With\nthe renewed grant, DFEI at UCCS plans to expand current initiatives and\nintroduce several new programs: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Ethics Integration into the Career Development\nR.O.A.R. Program. <\/strong>The newly launched\nR.O.A.R. Program, an acronym for Relationships, Opportunities, Acumen and\nReadiness, is a career curriculum to prepare students for a seamless transition\nfrom college to career upon graduation.\nOperating in three phases, each course of the R.O.A.R. Program will require\nstudents to earn \u201cEthics Badges\u201d, which demonstrate an understanding of\nprinciple-based ethics in the workplace. Additionally, students will also\nattend industry tours at ethically focused organizations throughout the U.S. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative at UCCS Student\nEthics Ambassadors Program. <\/strong>This pilot program pairs students with a DFEI at UCCS Ethics\nFellow to engage in ethics on a deeper level and gain program-based work\nexperience with faculty experts in their field. Students will contribute to\nethics programs, conferences and curriculum, providing lasting impact on their\nuniversity and broader community.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Expansion of the<\/strong> <strong>Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative at UCCS Southern Colorado Higher Education Consortium Ethics Champion Program. <\/strong>Building on the momentum from the pilot program, DFEI at UCCS plans to expand the SCHEC Ethics Champions program to introduce an \u201cEthics on the Road\u201d series and host additional conferences for students and educators throughout southern Colorado. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Daniels\nFund launched the collegiate program in 2010 to reinforce the value of ethical\nbusiness practices in college education. The initiative reflected the late Bill\nDaniels\u2019 personal commitment to ethics and integrity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UCCS\nwas one of eight piloted universities in the program, which has since expanded\nto eleven institutions across Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. The Daniels\nFund Ethics Initiative at UCCS is led by Tracy Gonzalez-Padron, professor in\nthe College of Business.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt takes\na considerable amount of commitment and dedication to maintain this grant,\u201d\nsaid Eric Olson, interim dean of the College of Business. \u201cWe are very thankful\nto our Daniels Fund Ethics Initiative at UCCS faculty and staff for their hard\nwork in achieving this distinction and for continuing to provide our students\nwith the highest standards of business ethics education.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">All\nparticipating schools have successfully renewed their grant for another five\nyears. The Daniels Fund Ethics Consortium schools include Colorado Mesa University,\nColorado State University, New Mexico State University, University of Colorado\nDenver, University of Colorado Law School, University of Denver, University of\nNew Mexico, University of Northern Colorado, University of Utah and University\nof Wyoming. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In\n2020, Leeds School of Business also joined the Daniels Fund Ethics Consortium for\nCollegiate Program 3.0. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Together,\neach university will work to expand and deliver principle-based ethics\neducation to their campus, local business community and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>About<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nDaniels Fund Ethics Initiative at UCCS is a resource for principle-based ethics\neducation, serving students, educators, and business community. The UCCS\nCollege of Business is one of eight original participating schools in the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.danielsfund.org\/Ethics\/Collegiate.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daniels\nFund Ethics Initiative Collegiate Program<\/a>&nbsp;that now includes ten participating business\nschools and one law school. &nbsp;Since 2016, the Daniels Fund Ethics\nInitiative at UCCS has partnered with schools of the Southern Colorado Higher\nEducation Consortium to expand principle-based ethics education.
