The ceremony is free and open to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Timing<\/strong><br>Commencement is at 2 p.m. Graduates are asked to arrive no later than 1:15 p.m. and use the Penrose Club entrance. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. for guests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Commencement is scheduled to end at approximately 4 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Seating<\/strong><br>Seats are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and graduates are allowed an unlimited number of guests; however, the Broadmoor World Arena does not allow individuals to hold more than four seats. No advance tickets are required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Handicapped seating is available on Row K, which runs the perimeter of the arena, and one folding chair is available to accompany the wheelchair. Sign language services are available in section 107. For the first time, live captioning will be available from anywhere in the arena at <a href=\"https:\/\/uccs.io\/cc\">uccs.io\/cc<\/a>. Data rates apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Security<\/strong><br>Everyone \u2013 graduates and guests \u2013 is subject to security procedures as they enter the Broadmoor World Arena. The arena limits people to one clear plastic bag with dimensions of 12\u201dx6\u201dx12\u201d or smaller, and one clutch with dimensions of 8.5\u201dx2.5 \u201d x5\u201d or smaller. There is no storage for graduates in the Broadmoor World Arena, and graduates should expect to carry onto the floor anything they bring into the arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A complete list of World Arena policies is available at&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.broadmoorworldarena.com\/plan-your-visit\/prohibited-items-1\">http:\/\/www.broadmoorworldarena.com\/plan-your-visit\/broadmoor-world-arena-event-policies<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Traffic and directions<\/strong><br>The Broadmoor World Arena is located at 3185 Venetucci Blvd. The suggested route is to take Exit 138 on Interstate 25, go west on Lake Ave., and then south on Venetucci. Traffic is expected to be heavy before and after the ceremony, and guests are encouraged to allow extra time and carpool if possible. Parking is free in the World Arena lots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For guests traveling from Denver, Interstate 25 between Castle Rock and Monument is being expanded. Allow extra time to navigate through the construction zone. Monitor speed conditions through the construction zone through the <a href=\"https:\/\/cotrip.org\/map.htm#\/speed\">Colorado Department of Transportation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Live coverage<\/strong><br>The ceremony will be broadcast live through<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=n7VpyZLFMrA\">&nbsp;YouTube<\/a>&nbsp;and will be covered on the UCCS Facebook and Twitter accounts. The ceremony will also be streaming at a <a href=\"https:\/\/events.uccs.edu\/event\/celebration_of_uccs_fall_2019_commencement\">community celebration at UCCS Downtown<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Honor cords<\/strong><br>Graduates receiving Latin honors (cum laude, magna cum laude, summa cum laude) will pick up those cords at the arena. If graduates are receiving additional cords or stoles (class gift, departments and offices, etc.), those are managed by those individual offices and graduates should contact that office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Commencement speaker<\/strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=117504\">Matt Carpenter (MPA &#8217;06)<\/a>&nbsp;is the 2019 fall commencement speaker as the Distinguished Alumnus Speaker. He is the executive vice president, chief operating officer and corporate secretary for El Pomar Foundation in Colorado Springs .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Distinguished Service Award recognition<\/strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/communique.uccs.edu\/?p=117368\">Judy Bell<\/a>&nbsp;will receive the Distinguished Service Award from the CU Board of Regents during the ceremony. She was the first woman to lead the United States Golf Association and was one of the first women to receive an honorary membership at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Alumni Association<\/strong><br>Upon graduation, each student will join nearly 48,000 UCCS alumni. Enrollment in the UCCS Alumni and Friends Association is complimentary and offers special events each year to keep alumni engaged with their alma mater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The alumni association also offers a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uccs.edu\/alumni\/future-alumni\/legacy\">black and gold legacy cord<\/a>&nbsp;for graduates with an immediate family member who is also a UCCS graduate.
